Holiday Season

Can't believe it is almost the end of the year and a new year is ahead of us. Many things to think back in the past year - thankful for most and regrets for a few. No matter what this holiday season and the festivities all around the town brightens up ones spirit and ready for the new year. It is the most wonderful time of the year and especially for the little ones. Writing letters to Santa...

And waking up in the morning to find wrapped gifts under the tree. The smiles on their faces - priceless.

Hope the new year brings a lot of joy and prosperity to all. Happy New Year 2013.

Peacock - symbol of pride

The bird walks strut and likes to show off its plumage. Hence 'Proud as a peacock' is a common saying to refer a person who is self centered and yet elegant.

The colors on the feathers are vibrant and the hue of royal blue along the neckline of this exquisite bird is my all time favorite color.

Peacock is the national bird of India. We all know that from our history lessons. But did you know the rationale behind this? In order for a bird to be declared 'national', the bird must be widely distributed in the country. It must be recognizable for the common man. It must lend itself to formal depiction, i.e. abstract depiction on government publications, etc. It must not be confused with the bird emblem of any other nation.

Moreover, peacock had great importance in the religious and legendary myths of India. The bird fit the bill perfectly and was declared national bird of India in 1963.

Always proud of India and its rich culture, heritage and history!

April Showers and May Flowers

It is told that April showers bring May flowers and indeed the rain has been abundant this season making the grass green, plants thrive and the buds blooms. Love this season for its mild weather, greener grass and plenty of flowers.

Flying Pig Marathon

A long time before Cincinnati was also called 'Porkopolis'. This named was coined in the late 1830s when Cincinnati served as country's chief hog packaging center. Over time, Cincinnati has acquired a lot other nicknames as well like 'Queen city of the West', 'City of Seven Hills'. But, because of the historical importance of the pig industry to the city, one of the prominent local event named after this history is the Flying Pig Marathon. This marathon is held every year during the first week of May.

I decided to take up the challenge this year along with some wonderful friends of mine. We did the 5K walk/run this year - it was indeed a lot of fun. What I loved about this marathon is the energy the crowd brings and the good cause the race is held for.

While I am still sore from the pain and stress my body had from the run, I will be looking forward for this event the coming years as well, long after my memories of this pain and soreness have subsided and left with just pride :)

A Diaper Cake

I never had heard about a diaper cake until recently when I saw it in one of my friend's baby shower. Since then, was waiting for the right occasion to try it out. Turned out not too shabby - a two tier diaper cake made with rolled diapers, some baby goodies, a few baby onesie and pink doll for the cake topper.
